Indoor U13's Finish 8 wins from 9 & still in the hunt

24 Feb 2013

Our U13 indoor side signed off their season with their 8th win out of 9 matches. Along the way we bowled a side out for the lowest total ever, had a miraculous win from a pretty hopeless situation with a direct hit run out and topped the bowling bonus points list, due in no small measure to our excellent fielding.
8 boys played a part during the season. Daniel Turner, Russell Dawes and Moni Ghosh gained important experience with Daniel holding his nerve in the shredder vs Hambeldon, Russell topping our bowling averages thanks to his debut performance of 2-15 and Moni hitting 65 unbeaten runs in 4 digs. All were key to our success.
Of the regulars Harry Gadd topped the run charts for us with an impressive aggregate of 238 (he currently leads the league's table too). Harry Wratten and Daniel Cox both made it over 130 and will be in the leagues top 10. Will Perrin and Ollie Kanavan both had moments and will look forward to next season with more confidence. With the ball Harry G lead the way in the wickets column with 6 scalps, both Harry W and Dan C were only one further back and Will another one back. While our bowling was penetrative, we struggled somewhat with wides, so it was perhaps our fielding that really set us apart. Great catching (a reflex one at square leg from Dan C stood out) and loads of run outs from all the boys (Will was part of 7 and Dan C 4) kept us at the top of the bonus points chart. The champagne moment in the field was undoubtedly HG's rocket throw to win us the Hambeldon game when all looked lost. Behind the stumps after Will took the gloves in the first match, Ollie spent the rest of the season standing up and should be pleased with conceding only 4 byes throughout.
With second place guaranteed we might yet win the trophy. The match up between Hambledon and Fareham brings the curtain down on the season and a Hambledon win will see us crowned. Watch this space for an update on Sunday 10th March.
Thanks go to Dawn and Mark Perrin for umpiring and scoreboard work (& cakes!), to all the boys parents who got the boys there - particularly to Dave & Simon for braving the high seas - and of course to all the boys who put so much in.
