U14's Retain Hampshire Cup

02 Apr 2007

Hambledon 147 - 4 (Josh Hathi 1-32, Alex Fletcher 1-35, Rob Jacobs 1-41)

P&S 148 - 4 (Rob Jacobs 43*, Al Power 39*, Alex Fletcher 20)

P&S U14s won the Indoor Cup for the second season running in a thrilling game against Hambledon. Hambledon won the toss and decided to bat, the P&S opening bowlers, Alex Fletcher and Josh Hathi bowled very accurately as did all the team with only 4 wides in the whole innings. Rob Evans took a great catch on the back wall, Josh got a run out and Al Power's keeping goes from strength to strength. Eugene Hind bowled for the first time indoors and was our most economical bowler, whilst Rob Jacobs's leggies were always a threat. Hambledon finished on 147 - 4 which meant we would have to bat very well.

Despite the loss of an early wicket Rob and Alex batted very sensibly and kept up with the run rate, Rob retired and Alex was unlucky to be run out. Hambledon then got a couple of quick wickets which left Al and Rob having to score 56 off the last 3 overs, both of them were superb hitting the bad balls for 6 and making sure they ran on the good balls. Al showed how much his batting has matured this year and Rob just carried on doing what he has been doing all season. We needed 1 off the last 3 balls and despite not scoring off the 1st 2 Al hit the winning run off the last ball of the match.

This completed our indoor season were we finished as league runners up as well as cup winners.
The squad were well lead by skipper Rob Jacobs who finished as top run scorer and top wicket taker, his attitude and commitment were top class and he lead by example.
Joe Collings-Wells become an indoor batting expert knowing when to run and when to hit and took vital wickets.
Alex Fletcher weighed in with some useful runs and invariably got us off to a good start with the ball, he also took the catch of the season.
Jake Peach showed he has potential to become a good all rounder with a couple of good innings and bowled very economically.
Al Power shared wicket keeping duties and by the end of the season was taking catches standing up to the seamers, he also seems to like scoring big runs against Hambledon!
Eugene Hind also kept wicket and proved his all round versatility by bowling in the final, he helped Rob to get us off to a lot of good starts.
Rob Evans showed his infectious enthusiasm for the game and always provided entertainment when batting.
Arjun Patel's bowling against Hambledon in the league showed with a bit more consistency he could be a useful indoor player.
Josh Hathi was given the task of having to bowl to two County players in the final and was more than equal to it enabling us to keep the runs down.
