P and S Awards Night - 18th Oct

24 Sep 2008

The Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club awards will be held on Saturday October 18th in the Entertainments Hall in St James Hospital starting at 7.30pm.

As a club we have a lot to celebrate at both Adult & Colts level. Our four adult teams look like they will all be promoted, the 1st’s finished runners up, the 2nd’s were champions, the Academy finished in the top 5 & the 4th’s were runners up. There were many Saturdays when over 50% of our four adult sides were under the age of 21 with five of our U16s being part of the 1st team squad during the season. Our Colts successes started in March with our U16s winning the league and cup, whilst the U14s were cup runners up. Outdoors the U15a’s and U13a’s both won their leagues and the 13s were Hampshire Cup runners up. The 11s completed all of their fixtures and the U9s had a fantastic season losing just one game and finished runners up.

Following on from our Astroturf pitch and nets installation we managed to secure an ECB Machinery grant that allowed us to buy a new roller and other essential equipment. We are in the process of getting another grant that will enable us to do some major renovation work on the square this Autumn in preparation for next season. We started improving the changing rooms as part of CricketForce 08 and will continue the improvements with CricketForce 09.

The evening should be a great event with all Colts receiving a team medal as well as all the various individual award winners for each team, adults and colts, receiving their trophies. At adult level we have Captains Player of the Year, Most Runs and Most Wickets, at Colts level there is a minimum of four awards per team.

As usual there will be a raffle with some fantastic prizes donated by various companies such as Hargreaves, Ram, BT, Homebase, Co-op as well as prizes donated by individuals. So if you are willing to donate a prize please bring it along on the evening. There will be a second hand/nearly new cricket sale, donations welcome!

The main difference this year is we will be running a cheap bar all evening and there will also be a buffet so we can make a real evening of it to celebrate our many successes. To cover the cost of the hall and the buffet there will be a small charge of £5 per adult with no charge for children. We have asked Hampshire to send someone along to present the awards.

This promises to be a good evening for all and we look forward to seeing you there to support your club.
