Captains Log - Academy

11 Sep 2008

As theonly skipper not to finish in a promotion place I should be downbeat but finishing 5th with an academy side is a magnificent achievement, made even more so becuase most weeks the core of the team was the younger Academy players with at some point any one of 7 of the 17 lads going up to do 1st team duty - at which all equipped themselves well, and a couple established themsevles there never to be seen in Academy colours again!

Highlights of the Season are Many
The Team batting performance at Hollybank tracking down 220 odd with Rob Evans unbeaten 68 leading us home
Ryan Way and George Chapmans 7 wickets in an innings achievements
Jamie Cowdery bowling atgainst Fair Oak which almost took us to an incredible victory
Ben Purssells Hat Trick at Waterlooville
Joe Collings-Wells maiden adult 50 v Railway Triangle
Jack Davies hitting 2 fifties on rare trips out for 4th team
Ali Powers massive six off a dead ball! - and I am sure there were others too - A thoroughly enjoyable year and with all of the lads improving as cricketers and 8 of them performing for 1st team we can all feel suitably proud

Thankyous to a whole host of people for help and support but particularly Julie Evans for the best teas in the league, John Townsend and Troy Davies for their umpiring, Rollie for running team in my occasional absence and Keith Evans for doing whatever needed doing and being supportive throughout - Thanks to you all and to the parents who ferried the kids around to these games

Heres looking forward to agreat future
