Match report Despite a daunting weather forecast, only 16 minutes were lost to rain as the visitors completed a third successive win. It seemed like a wise decision when Gosport decided to field first. Only eight of the scheduled forty Southern League matches were completed. P & S’s 242 was only surpassed by Portsmouth in Division One. All of the top five exceeded 25 and Ned, making his Southern League debut, went a lot further, taking part in three partnerships of more than 40. At 208 for 4, a formidable total looked possible, but five wickets were lost in the last seven overs for the addition of 34 runs
As it turned out, this didn’t matter. Gosport started with 48 for the first wicket in 18 overs. Australian Ollie Lunt who scored 141 off 105 balls at St Cross last week, was second out at 58 as Ewen tied down one end. Max performed the same restraint at the other end and with 23 overs remaining, 175 were needed for a home win.
Ben then brought back his opening attack and 78 for 3 soon became 108 for 9. Jono’s hostility was rewarded with his best figures of the season despite spirited resistance from Prathapasinghe. Felix made sure of the final point of the 22 received, maximum points secured.
