Match report Just as last year, Hartley Wintney struggled to field a competitive side for their visit to the South coast. No doubt the return match will be a difficult one. The weather looked threatening throughout and the scorers were eventually sent packing to the pavilion, but the match was completed with no stoppages in play despite some light rain.
The scorecard tells the story. The game was very one-sided. I’m not certain, but 342 may be the club’s highest score in the Southern League. We did score over 400 against Totton & Eling II in a Hants Div 1match.
There were two big partnerships in the home innings. Ned and Jack put on 109 for the third wicket and 75 was added for the fifth wicket by Alex and Tom.
The visitors’ reply was soon in trouble at 13 for 3 after three overs. Their fourth wicket pair added 34 and their last pair 29. A points total of 22 against 5 doesn’t really represent the gulf between the two elevens.
