Match report On a hot, sweaty day, Havant decided to bat first in very dry conditions. The outfield was quick throughout. The first wicket fell at 18, Chris, who did a very good job behind the stumps, taking the catch off Jono. Galliers looked in good touch and in partnership with Loat, added 30 in 12 overs. The scoring rate had slowed down with introduction of the spinners.
All of the Havant partnerships were in double figures, but none exceeded 30. In fact, the 10th wicket stand of 22 was equal second best. Turk took the slow bowlers on but perished going for a big hit to long off. Hayward sustained the innings with last man Russell his most helpful partner.
Matt and Shaun brought up the 50 in the 13th over against tidy bowling, but in the next over Turner, the off spinner began a collapse in which four wickets fell for 17 runs in 26 deliveries.
Tom joined Chris (who had only 2 to his name) and they carefully constructed a repair job so effective that no more wickets fell (and no more batting points were lost) while they added the 96 runs required for victory. There were 11.2 overs remaining when Chris hit the winning boundary. Maximum points were achieved to strengthen further our team’s position at the top of Division 3.
