Match report The biggest surprise was not that we won, but that it wasn’t closer. Jack and Matt have been an outstanding opening partnership this year and today put on 62 before being parted in the ninth over. Jack followed Matt back to the pavilion 8 runs later. Unfortunately, this left both Ollie and Alex on nought. Ollie and Tom added 25 for the fourth wicket in four overs. It was left to Dean to sustain the rest of the innings and he made the bulk of the 39 runs added in the last four overs. The visitors were required to score at 7.5 runs per over throughout their innings.
When they reached 46 for 1 from six overs, they were in a solid position to win the game. However, Keiron broke the partnership and in the following over (Ben’s first) both Shephard and Birts perished. Wickets then fell regularly to the three spinners. Hudson kept an end going until being brilliantly caught and bowled by Tom whose leg spin accounted for four wickets in the space of seven balls. As David Coleman would have said, “remarkable !”
We are now through to the Plate semifinals again.
