Match report Jack decided to chase in this Plate quarter final and made the right call in this close and exciting match. Jake and Jono send back the openers with the first seven balls of the game. There followed a partnership of 50 in six overs by the belligerent Buckingham and Willcock. They were dismissed within a run of each other leaving Hook on 57 for 4 from 8 overs. All the home bowlers impressed to the extent that the second highest partnership of the innings was 23 for the last wicket. The target was 135, tantalising in that it was gettable and also a potential winning score.
Jack and Chris began with a partnership of 44 in 9 overs despite finding off spinner Divecha difficult to get away. Chris’s demise was the first of four wickets to fall in four overs. Ollie walked out to join Tom on 64 for 4 with 71 needed from 8 overs and set about the task with great relish. Initially, Ollie gave as much of the strike as he could to Tom who showed his appreciation in no uncertain terms, hitting 3 sixes, one of them absolutely massive. They added 46 in five overs to put the home side in the box seats.
When Tom was bowled, 25 were required from 21 balls. Jake followed Tom back to the pavilion two balls later. Jono supported Ollie who now took responsibility for the victory. There was another blip when Jono and Muhammad departed with the scores level, but Ollie flicked the penultimate ball of the match for six over backward square leg to clinch a memorable win against a team two divisions higher, fielding ten of the team which played the previous day. This made for a very satisfying weekend, with Fareham losing and Trojans losing badly.
All four teams won on Saturday too !
