Match report A lovely morning down on the seafront and the 11B's were away to local rivals Portsmouth. Skipper Henry Ferret won the toss and decided to bowl first. It has to be said that generally the bowling was very good and the fielding was exceptional. Players were throwing themselves around to save runs and it was especially pleasing to see the boys backing up all the time. Special mention goes to Will Pearson who took 3 of the 4 wickets we were able to claim, Jacob snaffled the other. It was only really some big hitting by the later pairs that got Portsmouth up to a competitive total. Into bat and Felix and Will P opened things up and moved the score on nicely, some big hits and good running from Elliot and Sam put us into a strong position and Jacob and Will H added more runs to the total. Unfortunately we were giving up wickets on a regular basis as well and this kept the hosts well in the game. The two Henry's batted last and the trend continued as they found the boundary with regularity but we conceded more wickets. With two balls to go we needed one run to win as long as we didn't lose another wicket. It was a step too far as Portsmouth's main strike bowler too two wickets in 2 balls to give the hosts a ten run victory despite us outscoring them with the bat. It was a great game played in a fantastic spirit and if we take one lesson away it is just to look after our wickets a bit more carefully. Well played everyone and better luck next time.
