Hambledon B v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13A on Tue 09 Jul 2019 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 8 runs

Match report A really good game of cricket played in a great spirit by both teams to end our season. Hambledon won the toss and elected to bat first. The pitch was looking difficult to say the least and with the sun going down later on in the match, batting first was probably a good call. Tom and Jack opened the bowling with real pace and both were unlucky not to take a wicket early doors. Unfortunately being so quick meant that edges raced to the boundary and there were a few of them. Tom struck first in his second over and Jack soon followed however it was on a free hit after a no ball. A change of pace with Harrison slowed the run rate down and Ryan bowled good lines without much luck. Elliot changed all that with a great ball to remove the dangerous looking number three and with the opener retiring we had Hambledon largely where we wanted them scoring wise, however with only 2 wickets down they had licence to swing the bat in the final 6 overs. This they duly did and whilst this led to 3 more wickets, another for Elliot and 2 for a very good Jack one of which was a great one handed catch by Elliot, they were still able to swish and swash their way to a competitive 131-5.
Into bat and the hope was that a couple of retirees in our opening 5 should be enough to get us home. Tom and Harrison E opened up and both looked confident and scored quickly in the opening overs. The luck deserted us in the 4th though as Tom got a grubber that shot through at ankle height to bowl him and 2 balls later Harrison got one that wasn't much higher. Down to Jack and Elliott to get us going again and the runs again started to flow, just as it looked like we were about to take the game away from Hambledon our luck deserted us again. Elliott missed a straight one to be out for 16 and Jack followed after mishitting a full toss to short cover for 18. Backs against the wall now and a chance for someone to really shine. Once again this season Ryan took responsibility and played a wonderful innings. He was ably supported by a really good Ollie who added 12 runs in a much needed partnership of around 40. When Ollie was out bowled the game was in the balance and 32 were needed off 24 balls. Could our lower order support Ryan in what would be a great win? The answer was unfortunately not as both Harrison M and Rob fell cheaply as their main strike bowler came back and Finley missed a straight one trying to score the boundaries that would have got us home. Ryan finished on an excellent 31 not out and a great game of cricket was won by Hambledon by 8 runs.
All in all a really positive season for the boys and good luck to all who still have games to play for other teams. UTW.
