Fair Oak v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Jul 2018 at 12:30
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 116 runs
Match report
Fair Oak chose to bat first and were struggling at 67 for 5 after 19 overs from the openers, Keiron and Tom. At this point, Gwynne joined Abbas and together they added 57 in ten overs to change the complexion of the game. Bass went quickly but McKenzie helped Abbas put on another 40 in five overs. Two wickets fell rapidly leaving the league leaders on 184 for nine with nearly 13 overs to go, but during the finale, Featherstone and Ross Stewart twisted the knife with an unbeaten partnership of 54.
The visitors’ aspirations were dented immediately when Jack touched a leg side delivery to the keeper. The pitch was still offering help to the bowlers and Stewart and McKenzie soon reduced their opponents to 17 for three in the sixth over. Shaun and Tom then added 41 in ten overs, but the introduction of leg spinner Bullough saw four wickets fall for 21, all taken by him in an excellent spell. Chris joined Ben while 39 runs were scored, giving the visitors hope of a batting point, but the last two wickets realised only four runs so four bowling points were the only consolation.
However, three of the teams in the bottom four lost, only Havant II registering a victory.
