DFS AND MOHIT LEAD THE WAY TO VICTORY

Havant won the toss and elected to bat first on the hottest day of the season to date. Connor and Romit took the new ball and were excellent as usual with their line and lengths. Romit got the breakthrough when he trapped Alsafi lbw for 6 in the 6th over. Connor replied in kind when he comprehensively bowled Kinge with the ball of the day for 10 in the very next over.

At 21-2 the home side were up against it. Although Ransley and Price did well to repel the threat of Connor and Romit they found runs hard to come by. Sam and Anil were now bowling and a stand of 59 from 17 overs came to an end when Anil trapped Price lbw for a painstakingly slow 7. Mosweu was in at 5 and looked to attack the bowling. Ransley had found a willing partner to try and accelerate the run rate with. A promising stand was starting to blossom and they had put on 47 runs in 6 overs to swell the total to 127.

Mohit’s leg spin was introduced with 10 overs remaining and it had a dramatic effect on proceedings. In his first over the impressive Ransley mistimed a pull shot to a deceptive “dipping and curving” full toss straight to Romit, who took a well judged catch at deep backward square. Ransley played very well for a solid 65.

Rajesh had replaced the economical Sam at the top end and got a wicket maiden in his second over. He cleaned up Collins with a fast dart that rearranged his furniture and he was on his way for just the 1 run. The dangerous Mosweu became the second batsman to be deceived by the “Moosrah” for an entertaining 28. Mosweu could only cut the vicious dipping full toss straight to the eager hands of Romit, who took his second catch of the innings.

Mohit was in the mood now and was licking his lips, whilst he was fixing the new arrivals with an intimidating stare. Mohit danced into another delivery and clean bowled Cripps with a sublime delivery that beat the batsman in the flight. Khan was the new batsman that had the unenviable task of facing a rampant Mohit. Khan did well to work his first delivery for 2 runs, but that only seemed to fill Mohit with indignation. The next ball, Khan was undone by the flight and he apprehensively prodded it straight to Sam for an easy catch in the covers.

Bergy came on to replace Rajesh for no other reason than it was his birthday and wanted to bowl an over. Bergy drew Carter out of his crease and Manny did the rest to take a smart stumping. Havant had collapsed to 152-9 and their chief destroyer Mohit had the chance to finish the innings and claim a maiden 5 wicket haul.

With his second ball of the over Mohit produced his trademark ”Moosrah” to bamboozle the experienced Smallbone into pulling straight to Sam, who took his second catch in the covers. Mohit had ripped out 3 batsman in 8 deliveries for 2 runs. Mohit had produced a memorable 5 over spell of bowling, in which he had tormented the Havant batsmen. He finished on a career best of 5-20 and

he rightly led us off the pitch. Havant had capitulated from 127-4 in the 30th over to 152 all out 8.2 overs later.

Gary and DFS opened our batting and laid a solid foundation. DFS in particular was in sparkling form, fresh from receiving the Supporter’s Club Player Of The Month trophy for June. They both looked very comfortable in the middle and Gary was playing the supporting role to DFS, whose first 6 scoring shots were all sumptuous fours. Gary departed in the 20th over with us perfectly set at 71-1. Bergy came in at 3 and added 29 runs in 5 overs with DFS, before the skipper was bowled by Smallbone whilst attempting a drive down the ground, for a busy 11 runs.

Manny came in at 4 and another 18 runs was added in the next 5 overs, before Manny was trapped lbw for 16, trying to pull Ransley through mid-wicket. Ransley got the prized wicket of DFS in the 31st over, when he was bowled for a classy 70 runs and the score on 128-4.

We now had two new batsmen at the crease in Jason and Mohit. Unfortunately, Mohit followed in the footsteps of Bergy and Manny by quickly getting into double figures and then giving his wicket away. Price bowled him for 10 and when Jason drove straight to mid-off, to give Price his second wicket of the over; we were making hard work of knocking off the last few runs for victory.

Rajesh and Connor made sure there wasn’t any further drama by finishing the match in the 37th over. This was our third win on the bounce and our second consecutive haul of 24 points and it moves us up to 5th in the league.

It was important to get the win, because it sets us up for a very testing month of fixtures in July. If we can win the next four matches we will be serious promotion contenders. We are all well up for it and along with our marvellous supporters we are relishing the challenges ahead. Well done lads! Bring it on!!!
