Match report An opening fixture against one of the anticipated favourites was a potential baptism of fire for our relatively inexperienced team. One of our experienced heads, Skipper Freddie, won the toss and chose to bat. New boy Alex started confidently but we were disappointed to lose our other experienced man, Tristan C to a run out. Nevertheless, after a first ball 4 for Freddie, he and Alex got running. It was a shame when first Alex holed out off a full toss and then Freddie was missed by the bowler for a caught and bowled but was frustrated when mid-off came round to claim the catch. After a bit of an uncertain start Tristan N got comfortable and looked as good as anyone collecting two 6's on the way to retirement. With a couple of overs left, Muhammad and Joel showed the rest how positive running can pay dividends as they hustled 25 off the last two. 103 gave us a chance but would need us to bowl well.
Tristan N got us in the box seat seeing the back of both openers for 7 each thanks to catches from Freddie and Alex. Unfortunately, a few fumbles for missed run outs, and a couple of drops meant we couldn't keep the pressure on and they ran out winners with 9 balls left. Our extra count was over 20 run higher than theirs too.
Marginal improvements and we'll be on the right side of the next result. Roll on next week.
