Scorecard

Fareham v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11 on Wed 05 Jul 2017 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 59 runs

Match report Only our 3rd match of the season so the players were keen to get out there. With only 3 true U11s in the side we thought it may have been a tough night but it would still be a great experience for the new players.

We lost the toss and batted first, Henry Collins and Robert opened, they made a steady start to our innings even though they faced the teams better bowlers, they pushed us forward to 215 by running a few byes and singles plus a great 4 from Henry. They ran slightly hesitantly at times but showed lots of promise and will definitely score lots more runs throughout the season.

The next 2 pairs, Ryan & Felix and Henry Ferrett and Talitha did exactly what was asked of them, they ran only when really comfortable and did not lose any wickets at all. Declan and Sid unfortunately faced 12 wides/no balls out of their 24 balls not really giving them chance to get a decent run score but they ran well when possible and looked as if, given the chance, they would have scored several more runs.

Our final pair were our 2 U9 district boys Elliott and Tom. They showed how much they have progressed over the last year by backing up and calling superbly. Elliott scored his highest runs total of the season, 21 not out after hitting 3 4s and taking advantage of a fielding error to run 3 off what was really only a single. A great batting performance by the whole team meant we finished on 301.

Throughout the majority of the match, the team looked tight in the field, they ran hard to chase balls down, stopping several from going over the boundary. Henry was superb as wicket keeper giving only 2 byes away all night. He confidently caught all balls coming into him at the stumps regardless of how fast, and managed to run out one of the 4th pair with his quick hands.

Henry F bowled a fantastic wicket maiden in his 1st over then ran out one of the batsman in his 2nd. Talitha was strong in all 3 overs and took a wicket, Robert only gave away 4 runs in 2 overs plus took a wicket and Sid, Felix and Elliott also took wickets deducting 50 runs off Fareham's total leaving them on 242.

It was a great team performance and a thoroughly deserved win. Every single player should be very proud of themselves this evening!
