Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11 v Old Netley on Mon 14 Aug 2017 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 84 runs

Match report Not quite the result we had hoped for to end the season on but every player did us proud. They had a great team spirit and worked hard as always.

We bowled first and although our bowling was tight giving away very few extras, they batted well and we only took 3 wickets, 2 great bowl outs from Oscar plus a run out from Elliott who stood in as wicket keeper for half the match. Also 2 maiden overs from Elliott plus a much improved bowling performance by Jack meant we kept their run rate lower than it potentially could have been. There were a couple of dropped catches in the field and some missed run out opportunities but these are all things that can be worked on in the winter nets sessions.

Our fielding could do with a bit of work as concentration is lacking at times but with such a young side (only 2 true U11s in the team tonight) this is to be expected, however they were quick to get the ball back into the bowler/keeper throughout and there was not one overthrow so that is a huge improvement.

The away side finished on 289 so not a huge target but with an inexperienced side it wasn't going to be easy. Unfortunately we lost 3 wickets in the 1st pair and after 4 overs were on just 194. Elliott and Talitha came in 2nd and put on 20 between them in spite of losing a wicket so things were looking up, we even managed to get the electronic scoreboard off the mark going above 0 runs at that point. Unfortunately we continued to lose wicket after wicket without putting enough runs on the board and like us the bowlers gave away very few extras. We lost 13 wickets and finished on just 205.

The match was played in the spirit in which it should be at this level by both teams, the players were a real credit to the club, especially those who assisted the away team in the field. We have lots to work on over the winter but it has been a thoroughly enjoyable season with lots of new faces we are certain will continue to go from strength to strength.

Thanks to everyone who has helped over the season in particular Jono, Guy, Jo, Ken and Andy for their help with umpiring and scoring plus all the parents for helping with sorting the match teas and clearing up. It looks as if we will finish right in the middle of the league table after winning 3 out of our 7 matches and the children have enjoyed a good season of cricket so a successful season all round . . .
