Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 4th XI v Sarisbury Athletic V on Sat 24 Jun 2017 at 2.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report The P&S development side returned to winning ways with a comprehensive win over Sarisbury V at Langstone harbour.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, the visitors set off at electric pace thanks to some heavy hitting. Uncharacteristically, we started slowly, with some of the bowling off the mark and numerous catches going down as the opening pair lived dangerously. Bangers broke the stand as Martin chopped on to his stumps for 26, who was quickly followed back by young Bolton. Having dropped him the over before, the skipper - wearing the gloves for the day - made amends by holding a trickier one up at the stumps off Mani's bowling. Another simple chance went down before we started to hold our chances, Neil taking a low one-handed catch off the impressive Harrison's bowling, before Simon, Mo and Mani with a dive off his own bowling all took good catches. When Harrison struck again, forcing Haynes to spoon up to Sean at mid off, Sarisbury were falling apart. Pink smashed a quick 17 but needlessly ran himself out, before Sean took a catch barely an inch off the floor and bangers held a simple one at mid-on to leave the visitors skittled for 123 in just 25 overs.

Despite falling behind the run rate last week, we started conservatively again but needing only 3 an over it was never a worry. Gary had been pushed up the order following his excellent 50 last week, and with Simon they coasted to 62 without loss at drinks, including a massive 6 over long-on from Gaz. After the break the pace increased as we raced toward our target, looking like we would do so without losing a wicket, only for Simon to fall for 43 as he looked to hit the winning boundary. Gary finished it off in style with a crashing on-drive which brought up his 50 to leave him unbeaten for the second week in a row, and we had won with 9 overs and 9 wickets to spare for a maximum points haul. Top work from the openers.

MOM: For a decisive spell that tore the heart from Salisbury including the key wicket (and a run out too) Harrison is mom with 5-2-20-3, well bowled.
