SAM SENDS LOCKS HEATH SPIRALLING WITH HIS SENSATIONAL SPIN

SAY GOODBYE SAY GOODBYE

SAM’S DONE YOU WITH HIS CHANGE OF PACE

We took another step towards promotion with a faultless performance against Locks Heath. We gained maximum points with a landslide victory of 155 runs. We won the toss and elected to bat in the sunshine. DFS and Garry built a brilliant foundation and at drinks we were 85-0.

At the resumption, the opening pair started to accelerate and they brought up their 100 partnership in the 24th over. Garry was the first to fall, lbw for a solid 43 and he is proving to be a very reliable opener for us. DFS was out shortly afterwards for 49, when he was caught in the covers.

Bibek and Bergy had the task of building upon the openers good work and they quickly upped the tempo. They milked the bowling and Bibek provided a steady flow of boundaries. The pair had put on 65 in 9 overs, before Bergy mistimed a drive which steepled high into the sky and was caught on the long on boundary for 26.

Sathish joined the free scoring Bibek, who took his scoring onto another level with two consecutive sixes. The first of them saw Bibek dance down the wicket to send a monstrous six crashing into the wall of the Sailing Centre complex. The next six was a ferocious shot that went flat over the long off boundary. Unfortunately, Sathish went without troubling the scorers and that gave Qasir a potential 5 overs to inflict his normal chaos on the bowlers.

One huge six down the ground and several scampered runs was the sum of Qasir’s efforts, when he was bowled by Levy’s slow off spin for an entertaining 11. Bibek became Levy’s third wicket when he holed at mid-wicket for a superb 46. The wickets continued to fall as Khartik and Connor chased quick boundaries. With three overs remaining Sam made his way to the middle. Sam and Tom sensible milked the singles on offer for the next two overs, which brought our score upto a very respectable 213.

No one could have predicted what unfolded in the last over. The first two balls were sedately worked for singles, which brought Sam back on strike. Levy bowled another slow delivery and suddenly Sam put a size thirteen down the track and freed his arms. He timed the ball to perfection and everyone watched in amazement as it sailed high over the mid-wicket boundary. Something had stirred in our gentle giant and the next ball received the same treatment.

On the boundary we all went completely wild with excitement. Bibek led a crazed jamboree that would not have looked out of place on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We were all baying for Sam (The Kahuna) to keep the procession going and to send us totally delirious with joy. Unfortunately, Sam was deceived in the flight by a clever piece of bowling from Levy and he was bowled for an entertaining 19.

Pete continued his remarkable feat of remaining not out for the entire season to date by finishing 2 not out. Tom was 3 not out as we posted a magnificent 229-8 on a slow track and heavy outfield.

Khartik and Connor opened the bowling. Khartik immediately fell into his metronomic rhythm from the Creek. Khartik got the break through when he trapped Henwood lbw with a full-length delivery. He got his second soon after when Dolby played across the line and was comprehensively castled for a duck. Connor removed the other opener with an absolute jaffer that pitched on middle and clipped the top of off stump. Sam replaced Khartik in the 11th over to start a devastating spell of bowling.

The fireworks began in Sam’s second over when Khartik took a superb low catch at long on. The very next ball Shergill was bamboozled by a ball that turned sharply back into his pads and he was on his way back for a duck. The field crowded the new batsman for Sam’s hat-trick ball. It beat Robinson all ends up, but unfortunately it narrowly missed the off stump.

Sam was revelling in his complete control of the batsman and he was like a puppeteer manipulating their movements at will. Qasir experimented with an over of leg spin from the Kendal End and it’s safe to say it will not happen again. He reverted back to his customary seam up and with his first delivery, he blew Masters away by bowling him before he moved a muscle. Locks Heath were reeling at 40-6.

A brief stand of 16 was broken when Bibek took a smart catch low down in the covers and Robinson became Sam’s third victim. Gary Rogers the Locks Heath Skipper was next in and has put many a bowling attack to the sword over many years of playing. He had comfortably moved onto 13, when Sam got him with the ball of the game. Sam flighted a ball on off stump, which drew Rogers forward and then ragged sharply through his defence and knocked back the top of leg stump.

Rogers stood transfixed for several seconds in total dis-belief then mumbled his recognition to Sam as he stumbled away with a vacant glaze in his eyes. It was pure genius from Sam and Locks Heath were 66-8.

There was no respite for the visitors as Pete replaced Qasir’s brief spell. Sam deservedly recorded his first 5 wicket haul for the club when he bowled the number 10 batsman. Locks Heath’s misery was ended when Levy was trapped lbw with Sam’s next delivery. He finished with the fantastic figures of 6-17 from 6.2 overs. Locks Heath were all out for 73 in just 24.2 overs.

This was a very impressive performance by us. We were totally dominant throughout the match and it gives us great confidence going into the game against Solent Rangers. It is a game of huge magnitude for us and is a real cup final. If we could claim maximum points it would be a giant step towards us gaining promotion and potentially winning the league. If we could mirror the professionalism of this performance we will get the 24 points we so desperately desire. We are the Mighty 3rd’s. Bring it on!
