OHHH KHARTIK MADAVAN

HE’S OUR LITTLE MAGIC MAN

HE’S OUR OPENER FROM INDIA

We won the toss and elected to bat on what Bibek described as, “one of the hottest days in my life.” Ben opened with Khartik Madavan who was making his final appearance for us before re-locating to Ipswich.

We lost Ben in third over when he was bowled by a jaffer. For the second week running Bibek found himself taking guard before any of us had even got comfortable in our seats. Bibek and Khartik seem to enjoy batting together and they soon picked up from where they left off last Saturday.

Khartik was finding his fluency with five elegant fours and one majestically timed huge six into The Kendall Football Stadium. Bibek was looking rock solid and was ticking over nicely by milking the singles. At our first drinks break we were well placed at 64-1 from 14 overs.

It was much the same pattern for the next 14 overs, in which Khartik had registered his third consecutive 50 and we were wonderfully placed at 140-1. In the 30th over the whole team were on their feet and deliriously applauding Bibek’s maiden 50 for the club. He brought it up in fitting style by stylishly hitting a straight six down the ground. Bibek is really warming to his pivotal role of number 3 in the team and is performing brilliantly.

Now he was beginning to play with freedom and followed Khartik’s lead by putting his own huge six into The Kendall Football Stadium. Another six followed soon after, before he was caught in the covers from a ferocious back foot drive. Khartik and Bibek has put on a massive partnership of 172 runs.

The Skipper strode out to the middle with 10 overs remaining. The runs continued to flow freely and it wasn’t long before Khartik was raising his bat in recognition to a fantastic 100. There are not enough superlatives to describe the talent of this little genius. Personally, I compare him to an Indian version of David Gower, such is his elegance and timing.

Bergy was next out in the 39th over for a rapid 37, when he holed out going for a six. Khartik Muthuramaran went lbw for 2 trying to smash the leather off the ball and Sathish faced several deliveries to end on 3 not out.

Unfortunately, Khartik Madavan was out to the very last ball of the inning’s, when he un-selflessly danced down the track attempting to put another one into The Kendall Stadium and got stumped for a majestic 130. It was a joy to watch and it will live long in the memory of everyone who was lucky enough to be there. Take a bow little man.

Sarisbury began their daunting reply against the opening bowling attack of Khartik Muthuramaran and Sam Richards. Khartik was soon in the act when Black snicked a fine out-swinger behind and Khartik Madavan took a superb low and diving catch inches from the ground.

The next wicket was all about Gousf and his brilliant run out. He initially made an error by letting the ball go under his foot at square leg, but then made amends by tearing after the ball and releasing a rapier throw inches above the stumps, to enable Khartik Madavan the simple task of breaking the bails. Street looked on incredulously as he was left floundering, hopelessly short of his ground.

Sam took the next three wickets to rip the middle order out of the Sarisbury inning’s. When Khartik Muthuraman removed Simkin for a duck, with Sam taking a smart catch above his head at first slip, Sarisbury’s innings was in tatters. Matters deteriorated even further when Khartik Muthuraman effected the run out of Dykes for 1. At the end of Khartik’s and Sam’s spells Sarisbury were 35-7.

Qaisir came on at The Creek end and bowled Bennet for 16 with the last ball of his first over. He then trapped Andrews lbw for 1 in the 25th over and Sarisbury were a very sorry 40-9. Amazingly the last pair added 61 runs in 14 overs, before Qaisir trapped Saunders lbw for a gritty 45 and to wrap up another 24 points win for us. Sarisbury 4th’s were all out for 101 and we won by a colossal 158 runs.

It was a brilliant performance by us and in the most part we carried out the ruthless brand of cricket I want us to play, to continue our surge up the table. This was encapsulated by Sarisbury’s batsman Saunders who commented when he was batting, “We are 39-8 and they are still whizzing the ball in when it’s an easy single. “

We have moved into second place and our next challenge is Netley 3rd’s and it’s another opportunity for us to get maximum points. Bring it on!

I would like to express the thoughts of all of us, by stating that it’s been an absolute pleasure to have had Khartik Madavan play in the third team. He has been a class act both on and off the field. You are a genius with the bat and a gentleman. From all of the third team, we thank you for your contribution to our season and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
