Match report A frustrating day all round with our first defeat coming in a rain affected game.

P and S lost the toss but were pleased to have first crack with the new ball. at 10-2 the game was in our hands with Matt wiliams bowling fast and really getting them on the back foot.

But perhaps being on and off the field four times halted our rhythm a little bit and after a recovery it took a while to get the next few wickets. at 90-4 however we were well on top. However, Mitchell (43) in particularly took the game to us hitting virtually all his runs over cow corner in an effective innings that perhaps gave Verwood 30 more than we expected and this made a crucial difference to the target they set. After this Ben Ran through them to pick up 4 wickets and We bowled them out eventually for 175 and Jez kept beautifully throughout on debut - Well done. We were then set a revised 126 to win from 26.

Things then couldn't have started worse with PandS 2-2 after 3 overs forcing Clem and Rob to consolidate. They then put on a quite brilliant partnership that accelerated perfectly. Unfortunately we lost both guys with the end in sight with around 30 needed from 5 and under a little bit of pressure to keep it ticking as they came in, the rest of the batting couldn't finish the job and we fell 6 short.

Verwoods skipper said he felt we would be in the mix at the top end of the table and I anticipate us getting stronger this summer. But if we are to compete we cannot drift in games as we did at times this week. Roll on next week everyone. Lets come back strong.
