Match report A convincing win saw us sign off our 13/14 season against local rivals Portsmouth. Thanks to their coaching staff for agreeing to allow us to field with 6 players when we hadn't been able to bat with a full side.
Our opening partnership of Harlan & Daniel C did what they had done most matches this year and both retired with Daniel C striking it particularly cleanly. Ollie too did what we've come to expect and hurried to a compact retirement. By this time their main bowler was on and saw Daniel T get sent back thanks to catch of the season by their square leg. A quick one nipped through Henry and the returning Harlan watched a leading edge nestle in the same man's hands. This left Dan and Ollie to see us home and, with a mix of good running and clean hitting, they saw us finish on a very competitive 133.
We had to bowl well and so we did. Tight early overs from Harlan and Dan T saw us ahead on run rate but once their opener retired the run rate climbed as the running got more urgent. Henry was outstanding in brining it back and well supported by all the fielders. The key wicket though was that of their no.3 who looked comfortable until he nicked one behind (and got stumped for good measure!). Dan's second wicket came with the help of the ever more reliable hands of Harlan and by the time catcher turned bowler and got a cracking yorker through their no6 we were well ahead. And so the game played out. Our cool heads ensured the urgency needed to take them up to our score never materialised.
So ended a nearly season. Although we just missed out on consecutive titles the progress made by all boys who contributed was clear. Check out the News section of the website for a season's round up.
