Match report The narrow playing area at Sarisbury Green provided a surfeit of runs and unhappy memories for the bowlers. The green pitch looked as if it would encourage seam bowling, but little evidence followed.
Despite sustaining a suspected broken toe in the early stages, Day conducted a ferocious assault on the visiting attack, during the majority of which he used a runner. He eventually retired hurt with the score on 193 for 1 (32 overs). Sarisbury struggled to maintain the pressure and only some aggressive hitting from Freemantle boosted their total.
Sarisbury were delighted with their early success, but nearly two hours had elapsed before they achieved their next breakthrough after Ian and Dan had added 190 in 31 overs, with Ian reaching his first century for the club. After Ian's demise, Jack and Tom did much as they pleased with the bowling to the extent that 25 deliveries were left unused.
