Match report Unfortunately the weather finally beat us in this one. Well done to all the players (and spectators) for braving the elements for so long!
Bowling first we beat our wides record by 4. Only 14 this time - can we beat that next game?
Captain for the day, Finley got us off to a great start with a wicket in the first over thanks to a snick behind and a good take from Ollie. Meanwhile George keep things tight at the other end. Our next bowling pair were the stars of the day seeing Portsmouth only advance their score by 3 runs in the whole 4 overs. Henry picked up a wicket first ball and was unlucky a few further times as the ball just passed the stumps. He helped Kyle pick up his wicket too as he held a super catch in the deep. As well as his wicket, Kyle had the proud accolade of bowling no wides at all. Next up, Theo too was unlucky beating the bat a number of times while Suni didn't bowl a wide and picked up two bowled wickets in the over of the day. Our final 4 overs were reeled off by Ollie and Will bowling only a wide apeice. Their efforts were particularly noteworthy since one of the batters was Moni Ghosh (of P&S U11 fame) guesting for Portsmouth. Our lads went wicketless until the penultimate ball of the innings when Will was rewarded for a good spell bowling their last bat.
With the rain continuing to fall Fin and George got our innings off to a flyer with Fin particularly striking the ball well. However Moni and his bowling partner did well to bring the score back by taking 2 wickets each. The catch in the deep to dismiss Fin was worthy of note. Next up, Henry & Kyle batted very well to show the value of protecting your wickets taking our score onto 231. Then 3 balls into our 3rd pairs knock we had to call it a day as the weather really had closed in leaving Theo, Suni, Will and Ollie unable to showcase their batting. You'll just have to score twice as many runs next time guys!
