U11 Seasons Review

27 Jul 2011

It was great to welcome the new faces who joined us this year which provided us with a broader squad to pick from and we were able to give most people a fair crack of the whip in our matches.
We played 10 games winning 3. However with the exception of a couple, when we put out pretty inexperienced sides, all our games were very well contested.
Most of the boys were experiencing hard ball, grass wicket cricket for the first time and I was really pleased to see how brave most of the lads were in facing some pretty good bowling from a number of much bigger and more experienced players. Next season we will see the benefit of the ground work done this time round.
Our  bowling and fielding improved vastly through the year. In the last game I was congratualted by a number of the watching visitors on how well we'd performed. Batting had it's moments but generally we lost too many wickets, often because of poor shot selection and not getting in line with ball. We can work on this and I expect next year to be reporting on real improvements.
There were many highlights and every player contributed throughout.
I don't want to give away too many clues about who might have won our awards this year so I'll save speaking about specific performances until the awards evening.
Thank you to all who played and trained so hard. Thank you too to Mark who helped with coaching and running matches when I was not around. Also to Ryan for his coaching. Only a few years back Ryan was being coached and now at 17 is playing in the club's first team  - how many of our current 11's might be in the 1sts in 5-6 years time? We're also indebted to Dawn (scoring & shop), Phil (scoring) and Tina (for putting up with me! - & providing after match refreshments). Thanks to all.
I look forward to working with everyone to see more improvement over the winter.   Well played boys.
