U9's Season's Review

05 Aug 2010

The 2010 season saw familiar faces, Fin, Oscar, Peter, Suni, Ollie, Will and Theo joined by new regular team mates George, Henry, Kyle and Jamie and special guest appearances from Isaac and Rosie.
We managed to play 15 games. 8 were completed in the league, of which we won 4, giving us a respectable mid-table finish. Most of the remainder were squashed into the Gosport Tournament.
It was great to see the new guys intergrate so well particularly since true coaching time was at a premium because most matches were played on our coaching nights. The coming winter sessions should let us develop at pace so watch this space for details of when that gets going.
Our early games showed the importance of bowling straight while laterly the focus changed to learning how to score runs and bowl and field under pressure.
Strong batting performaces from Fin, Will and Ollie generally underpinned our batting - although valuing our wickets will be ever more of a necessity moving into U11 cricket.
With the ball Suni repeatedly hit the stumps, Fin was too quick for most and Kyle the hardest to hit.
In the field Henry took the catch of the season, diving to his left to hold one at Peterfield, while George, Theo and Peter were all good in clinging on to tricky ones. Ollie with the Keeper's gloves on topped the catches list and effected a couple of stumpings. It was noticable however how our concentration let us down some times in the field. We must remember cricket is a team game. (That goes for our running when batting too)! If we could all match Theo's enthusiasum and Williams concentration our fielding would be top notch.
Overall it was a good season and it's clear every single player made condiserable improvement - even Jamie who joined us pretty late in the day!
The club will hold an awards evening in the autumn (date to be confirmed) and I'll have to get my thinking cap on as to who will pick up the gongs because every single player contributed well this year.

I look forward to working with the guys over the winter and helping them take their next steps to be the best cricketers they can be.
