Match report Ben won the toss and chose to bat first. The weather forecast was good, but not accurate. Felix and Matt were in a hurry. Their partnership of 66 took just 9 overs and Brixton was removed from the firing line for the day.
The dismissal of Felix didn’t help Liphook as Matt and Ned added 23 in four overs before a few spots of rain brought the covers out. It was a good decision as the rain became serious.
Just under half an hour was lost but the scoring rate had changed and not for the better. Matt and Ned took their partnership on to 87 when Matt left in the 27th over. Three runs later Alex became the second LBW victim. When Tom Wheeler was caught, the board read 170 for 4 in 31 overs and 21 runs later it was 191 for 6, Tom Benfield also given out leg before. Jake and Lenny were both victims of spin while Ned headed for his top score for the club. He and Max added 29, both of them departing on 247 with 11 balls remaining. Aftab and Ben scored 15 from them to post a good total, with maximum batting points (5) already achieved.
Liphook were below strength and were soon struggling against the off spin of Ben and Matt and at 136 for 7 in the 33rd over, looked doomed. Visiting captain, George Neave was 28 not out at this point and launched a violent assault on the bowling, aided by excellent support from Lewis. They put on 76 in 14 overs and looked serious contenders.
However, Jake and Max took the last three wickets for 19 to make the win safe and collect the maximum of 22 points to remain in second place in Division 2.
