Match report A lovely Friday evening, with the sun shining, the swans looked to try and secure the top spot of the Hampshire - South group. Winning the toss Nikki opted to field first. Our first wickets of the game came back to back early in the second with Midge clipping the top of off stump, and a runout from Nikki at the non-strikers end. A fierce ball from Helen smashed to mid wicket saw the skipper at silly mid needing to take a minute! Midge bowled very well, hitting off stump a second time in the 7th. A lovely catch from Mish at fine leg saw Samuels pick up a wicket in the 3rd. Mash having good hands behind the stumps, kept the byes low. Nikki picked up a couple of wickets in the 10th and 12th - with a low crouching catch from Aimee at cover and a hot potato catch from Samuels at mid on. A lovely straight bowled ball from Katie hitting middle stump and a catch from Mandy at cover in the 13th saw katie also pick up a couple. Roisin clipped the top of the stumps removing the bails in the 17th and Aimee with a swift pick up after bowling a great last over saw a second run out. Gosport batted extremely well and scored highly but unfortunately the loss of so many wickets reduced the run chase for the swans dramatically.
On to the chase and Mandy started well with a boundary 4 off the first ball, after that the gosport bowlers kept her at bay and our first wick lost when she hit a shot straight into the hands of Mollie at mid wicket, picking Julie W up her first of two. The runs were coming nice and steady with Aimee playing some great shots, but a ball clipping the edge of the bat saw Zoe at cover take a catch. Mish and katie had a good partnership, with 1 wicket lost by the fast bowling of Julie W. With the score total reached, last pair Tracy and Nikki did what they do best - with Gosport deep in the field using the big gaps at mid on and mid off for some nice quick singles.
Great game played by both teams. Well done all.
