Match report In a commanding display of bowling, P&S 3’s secured an important victory by 71 runs over local rivals Portsmouth, pushing themselves out of the relegation spots. Proving again that he is a good tosser, skipper Saunders won the toss and, looking up at the sunny skies, chose to bat on what he thought was a hard deck. Unfortunately, after a promising start, the Mighty 3’s were bowled out for 166 in 38.2 overs. Opener Jacob Phillimore top-scored with a patient 55 off 102 balls, supported by number 3 Harrison Whitworth's brisk 43 off 50 deliveries. Jon Ashford added a quickfire 27 off 20 balls, injecting some much-needed momentum towards the end of the innings. However, Goodfellow wreaked havoc with the ball on what was becoming a crumbly pitch, claiming an impressive 4 for 2 in just 1.2 overs. Despite their promising start, the 3’s lost wickets at regular intervals, with their last 5 wickets falling for just 2 runs, including a questionable hatrick. This lead to what P&S felt was a subpar total.

In response, Portsmouth faltered under relentless pressure from the P&S bowlers, collapsing for a mere 95 runs in 24.4 overs. Skipper Saunders was the standout performer, delivering a masterclass in slow seam bowling with figures of 7 for 15 from his 7.4 overs. His lethal spell decimated the Portsmouth batting line-up, which some described as moments of madness. Only Ed Holmes provided some resistance with an unbeaten 26 off 27 balls, swinging in a successful attempt to earn Portsmouth their single batting point. Ryan Clarke and Sam Wheeler both chipped in with an important wicket each, claiming Portsmouth batters who were swinging in an attempt to counter-attack the P&S pressure. Harrison Whitworth claimed the other wicket, ripping one only for the opposition batter to drag onto their stumps. The Portsmouth innings crumbled swiftly, highlighting the Milton Massive’s dominant bowling performance and securing their comprehensive and important victory.
