Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 3rd XI v Folland Hamble on Sat 13 Jul 2024 at 13:00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report The Mighty 3's clinched victory against Folland Hamble by four wickets in what was a much needed win. Folland Hamble, batting first, struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 141 in 34.2 overs. Amit Kumar and Gayan Lakshitha were the standout performers with the bat, scoring 31 and 45 runs respectively. Unfortunatley they took a liking to leading wicket taker Sam Wheelers bowling, after he had claimed a double wicket maiden in his first over. Lakshitha's aggressive innings, including seven boundaries and two sixes, provided some much-needed resistance. Romit Patel and Joshua Betley provided the fight back and were the pick of the bowlers for Portsmouth & Southsea, both securing three wickets each and restricting the opposition effectively. Betley’s 5.2 overs yielded just 17 runs, showcasing disciplined bowling that put Folland Hamble under constant pressure.

In response, Portsmouth & Southsea faced early setbacks, losing Mohit Patel for a duck. However, Krishan Patel anchored the innings with a splendid 80, hitting ten fours and a six, leading his team towards the target. During a heated moment in the chase, Patel was involved in a heated exchange with the opposition, leading to an unexpected altercation. In a complete turn of character from both players, Patel had to be held back by his teammate, Jacob Phillimore, who had earlier contributed a steady 28 to the chase. Despite this incident, Portsmouth & Southsea reached the target in 35.3 overs, Josh Betley finishing his wonderful afternoon with a four flogged towards cow corner and the skipper Connor Saunders hitting the winning runs for the second time this season. P&S finished 142 for 6, securing a hard-fought win. The match highlighted stellar individual performances and competitive cricket, with Krishan Patel’s decisive innings being the cornerstone of the victory.
