Match report This match was played on the best pitch Ray has produced this season. It made good sense to bat first which is what Ben chose to do. Matt was in aggressive mode again during an opening stand of 47. His 32 was made from eight boundaries. Ned and Jack added 98 for the third wicket and Usman with Dean put on 79 for the seventh wicket. These partnerships enabled the team to pass the 272 made against Liphook at St James’s
Jack Campbell, fresh from playing for Sussex at Neath the previous day, was the most economical of the visitor’s attack.
Langley Manor have probably the best opening pair in Division 2 in Budd and Browne and they delivered 67 for the first wicket. Four runs later they were both gone, but Steve Harris joined ex Hampshire batsman Sean Ervine (who scored over 11,000 first class runs) to add 110 for the third wicket. Campbell made only 15 of the fourth wicket partnership of 62 as Ervine dominated proceedings.
There were just eight balls left unbowled after Ervine hit the winning boundary.
This win moved Langley into third place and they seem to be the greatest threat to overtake P & S after New Milton lost and most results were favourable to our cause.
