Match report Although this match was low scoring, it held the attention for the whole of its duration which lasted one ball short of its final over. This was appropriate for a contest between the second and third placed teams in Division Two.
New Milton won the toss and batted. Jake soon had Shrubsole caught behind, but in his next over he suffered a side strain. Adams and South African Davies then added 61 for the second wicket before Usman wrecked their middle order. His hat trick ball was unproductive but within seven overs he had taken 5 wickets for 15. Max had removed Bartlett, so the total stood at 104 for 7 with 15 overs left. Beck and Gawler then added 39 before the last three wickets fell for just five runs.
As in the New Milton innings, a wicket fell early followed by a decent partnership, Matt and Dean adding 41 in 10 overs. Ollie and Ben put on 22 for the seventh wicket in ten tight overs, but both were gone by the 44th over with 31 still needed, but there were still 38 balls left. The opening bowlers were able to bowl all of these. Max took the majority of the strike and regularly talked to Jake. The tension off the playing area was intense, but it seemed not to affect our ninth wicket pair. When Max thumped the penultimate ball for four there was a collective sigh of relief and a good deal of congratulations for the successful duo.
