Match report This was a cricket Groundhog Day although it was statistically worse than our visit to Langley Manor last season. There were some mitigating circumstances. Jake was unable to bat due to illness and the ball turned alarmingly and bounced erratically during the second innings. However, there were some reckless shots which resulted in dismissals.
Langley Manor had won the toss and included some good partnerships in their total. Browne and Harris made 62 for the 2nd wicket. Browne and former Hampshire professional Sean Irvine added 49 for the 3rd wicket, although the latter survived a raucous appeal for LBW on his first delivery. Stanton and Spencer put together 45 for the 7th wicket. Alas the second top scorer in the innings was extras, featuring 34 wides. The total of 238 for 8 meant that the home side had maximum batting points while the visitors’ 4 bowling points were going to be the only ones they were taking.
