Match report This match ebbed and flowed, almost matching the weather which blasted across the ground from the south-west. When the covers were first removed, the pitch looked emerald green. Showers forced the pitch to be recovered, but when the game began, the pitch looked a bit paler.
Predictably, Liphook chose to field first, given the likelihood of rain interruptions and when Janczur took his third wicket there were 42 on the board from 14 overs. At this point, Alex joined Jack to add 75, increasingly aggressive runs in 16 overs. At this point P & S were in charge, but the next six wickets realised only 27 runs, so that when Jono joined Ben for literally the last stand, the board read 144 for 9. However, there were still eight overs left and 54 runs were made, adding two more batting points and just missing a third.
The visitors’ attack now had something to defend and good bowling from Ben and Tom reduced Liphook to 114 for 7 with 21 overs to go and an away win looked the best bet, but Neave was then joined by Worman and their aggression brought 53 in 7 overs. The rain break had reduced the target to 193 in 47 overs. This meant that 26 were required in 6 overs and this was comfortably achieved.
Had the absent Max or Matt Williams been playing, the result might well have gone the other way.
