Match report In the continuous fine weather, the visitors decided to field first; an option they may have come to regret. With Ewen and Toby returning home at the end of the university term, Matt Williams and Noman Ali took their places with the latter making his Southern League debut. The batting order showed some changes too.
The sharp left armed Philpott forced the top three to bat carefully, reaching 33 for one in the 11th over. Ben helped Matt B add 37 for the second wicket. Matt reached 30 for the third successive match and was out at 72 in the 19th over. Tom followed two runs later. The innings accelerated when Jack and Dean put together a partnership of 66 in 15 overs. When Jack was caught low down, Max joined Dean to add 55 in 10 overs with some smart running. The last four overs contained 36 runs for the loss of two more wickets, so the maximum of 5 batting points was reached.
As has happened in several games this season, the opposition have got off to a good start and this happened today as well, 56 coming from the first 11 overs. The first crisis for HW came from the introduction of Matt W who took wickets with his second and third deliveries. Puddifant and Cockram took the score on to 84 before the former became Matt’s third victim. This was the beginning of the first collapse as the visitors declined from 84 for 2 to 100 for 6 in just 6 overs, Matt and Max doing the damage.
Cockram and Teale rallied their side with a stand of 37 in 9 overs before a second collapse left HW on 137 for 9, the spinners doing the damage. Blest showed some defiance, but the game was up long before he entered the fray.
Maximum bowling points (5) were thus added to the 17 for winning and batting to ensure P & S remain in second place, Waterlooville having also won.
