Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI v United Services III on Sat 25 Jul 2009 at 2pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 239 (yes 239!) runs

Match report Biggest ever margin of victory and highest team and individual club score for Dan. Not a bad day.
Winning the toss we batted first and from the first ball which Clem cut for 4 to the last which Chris Rippin slog-swept for 4(after a first ball "Dilshan") we were on top. At 20 overs we were 90 odd with out loss having given only one chance. Clem missed a good ball to be bowled bringing the Shermanator to the crease. His 54 came at much better than one a ball but he was eclipsed by Dan who scored the lions share of their 15 over, 175 run partnership. His innings was full of every shot in the book and was a sight to behold. Very well batted Dan. Unfortuately after Matt fell to a good yorker the rest of the batting fell away chasing quick runs but nevertheless on the back of Dan, Matt and Clem's work we posted a massive 349. A quick word for the ground staff. The track was a real belter - thanks for your considerable efforts.
Defending that was never likely to be a problem but we wanted to give a good account of ourselves in the field - and we did. Matt Williams, bowling under the new alias of Ricky Hatton (ask him why) started well beating the oppo's skipper first two balls before welting a ball to cover where the skipper rolled back the years to take a sharp catch. His second over saw the second opener caught behind and a no-ball snafled by Rob Evans at third slip. At the other end Jamie was bowling as tight and quick a spell as we've seen from him. Three chances and numerous play and misses couldn't tell the tale fairly. Top spell. Matt managed a further two scalpes thanks to Roger's good gloves and Robbie E's first legitimate slip catch. Ryan replaced J and his first ball full toss lead to a run out! Two further wickets for him with one particularly spectacular return catch, kept us well ahead. Sammy T started strongly with a 2nd ball wicket but took some tap with aggressive fields set. However he recovered well to take a second and bowl with good control. Chris Rippin was asked to round things off and although their last pair batted gamely for their best partnership he duly did it in our 24th over.
Well played one and all.
