Match report Great 22 point start with a new mix of young guns and senior pro's. Although we lost the toss I think we would have put them in anyway. Once Jamie found his run-up he bowled with real fire gloving the ops skipper in the first over giving the first of two b Cowdrey c Smith (Matt) combo's. At the other end GP was doing what he's done for countless years at a higher level and proving untouchable. When he did find the edge a diving Clem snaffled the early chance. Over of the day however wasn't productive due to poor slipping. The first ball edged, falling short of 3rd, the second dropped at 2nd, the third dropped at 1st and the final 3 beating the outside edge. We'll do better next time Gary! Varun started as he left off last week bowling straight with nip and swing and picked up 2 good uns. Ash took his second team bow settling into a tidy spell (adding to his excellent deep fielding) while surprise of the day was Jack D who bowled with good variation and control when the hits were on and picked up a late wicket. We had been well placed with them at 50 odd for 5 but due to sensible batting from their no.s 6 and 7 and good late hitting saw a fair score of 178 posted.
JD and Clem started in measured fashion and built well, being little troubled, seeing us to 70 odd before Jack was bowled pushing things along and Clem perished a couple of overs later. Matt and Alex continued the good work before Matt was done by a sucker punch holing out at deep sq leg. As Alex and the Skipper nudged the score on we were in the box seat and when Alex departed - if only he'd listened to his partner's advice (do as I say not, as I do!)- Smudge and Skip were looking at about 6.5 an over to win it. Tight bowling saw the rate climb towards 10 and despite some agressive hitting we were left wanting 19 of 12 balls. We eventually made it over the line with a ball to spare thanks to a couple of full tosses and the Old Guards paunchant for putting them away.
