Match report On another baking hot day, the umpires wisely decided to have three drinks breaks per innings while the outfield cried out for moisture. Pike called incorrectly at the toss, condemning his team to fielding first although they began well, dismissing Matt and Alex with only 7 on the board. They had to wait 20 overs for their next wicket after Shaun and Jack put on 107. When Chris was dismissed, Jack and Tom added 52 in seven overs before Jack was caught low down at cover point.
Tom dominated a partnership of 82 with Dean in14 overs against his favourite opposition and looked very tired when stumped. Dean and Max kept up the pressure, adding 28 from the last 14 balls.
286 looked like a winning total and looked even better when Matt bowled danger man Paul Longland. He then took two more wickets, leaving Paultons on 38 for 3 in the eighth over. Keiron took wickets with his first and seventh balls, before conceding a run and 63 for 5 looked desperate for the visitors. However, Dawes and Liam Longland then added 48, comfortably the best partnership of the innings, but when Ben removed Dawes and Smith at 111 the end was nigh.
Longland Junior made sure a batting point was secured before being the last out.
South Wilts II suffered a damaging result with three games to go. Next Saturday’s visit to Langley Manor is a big match.
