Match report A wildly inaccurate weather forecast provided the backdrop to this exciting encounter. Several very brief and light showers occurred but failed to stop the game. The gusty wind must have made life difficult for the bowlers (not to mention the scorers !).
Visiting captain Connor Browne called incorrectly and Ben decided to bat first. At 13 in the fourth over Chris was smartly caught in the gully, bringing Toby to the middle in his second match for the first team. He reached double figures quickly but was then bogged down by the slow bowlers. However, he helped Matt to add 77 before being dismissed in the 30th over.
Jack and Matt started building their partnership against the second pair of spinners, Renders and Garner. They were particularly severe on Garner as they added 163 in 18 overs. Jack was caught on the boundary with only 11 balls left. These cost another 20 runs. Matt deserves huge credit for carrying his bat for the whole innings during which he found his form and being able to accelerate despite being tired. Having Jack at the other end no doubt greatly helped him.
Langley Manor made a terrific start to their innings and were 114 without loss after 22 overs. Bowling in tandem, Ben and Keiron reduced them to 135 for 4 with 20 overs remaining. When Max removed Garner at 154, half the side were out and they needed 120 from 14 overs. To their credit, they went for the win.
Harris and Spencer put on 64 in 10 overs. Harris and Renders added 23 in 3 overs before Jono took two wickets in the first three balls of his last over. Bowling the final over, Matt bowled Morgan, but Bellow survived the last delivery to deprive P & S of a fifth bowling point.
This was a crucial victory against one of the top teams in Division 3 and the way that our team persevered and didn’t crack when under heavy pressure was vital. Seven straight wins mean that we are still top.
