Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Indoor U13s v Havant on Sun 27 Mar 2022 at 4.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Our final outing of another disjointed Indoor season was a tough assignment against the, as yet, unbeaten table toppers Havant. Putting them in we had the perfect start as the non-striking opener was called for a non-existent single to be run out by Gully without a run on the board. Number 3 and the remaining opener played retiring hands with very differing methods, the former swashbuckling his way off and the other nudging 3s. With us able to keep the run rate mostly below 10 we were going OK and when Gully got the number 4 to feed Elliot's safe hands we were in front. However, sensible batting from 5 & 6 kept them in things. Things might have been a bit different had a direct hit run out (again from Gully) dislodged the bails and the next ball bowled being a no-ball from Henry O counted. However, these incidents just delayed the return of their retirees. Neither troubled the scorer further though as Sam took a good catch off Henry F and Elliot fed Jacobs quick gloves for a run out. Closing on 119 it was a decent, but we felt, gettable score.
We hared out of the blocks in pursuit. 3 x 6s from Henry F saw him hutched in the blink of an eye. His partner Jacob crashed two 4s and a 6 but fell agonisingly short of retirement again. Henry O and Elliot were initially caught up in the crash bang mind set and the run rate dropped as the back wall couldn't be found. However, they soon settled with Henry retiring with 4,4,4,6. With just 4 needed we lost first Sam (who had played well for his score) and then Elliot as they both tried to finish it with a maximum. Enter the returning wise old head Henry F, who stroked a single to cover and watched a wide round things off with an over and half unused.
A storming finish to the year shows what we could do when we play with common sense. We'll confirm our final league standing in due course.
As I believe that is the season done for all sides (unless Locks Heath and Waterlooville players had amazing figures tonight) we can be really proud of our Henry's as HO'H looks to be well clear at the top of the league runs chart (184) and HF the same in the wickets column (12). Regardless of how things end up - well done to them and to all who have contributed towards an enjoyable season, and a big thank you to scoreboard operator and Umpire extraordinaire Matt W. See you outdoors!
