Match report And so our U13bs brought their season to a close. Being asked to bat, their quick and straight opening bowlers soon had us on the ropes as Charlie, Owen and Thomas were done by good balls before they had got their collective eyes in. All the while Jacob was holding his end up well. When a brief partnership with Dylan was ended by another good ball, Jacob was joined by Sam who looked the most comfortable bat on show as he rattled to a retirement. Once Jacob departed (trying to send the ball into Southsea) Will played with a mix of stoic defense and attacking off side play to see us to the close without being bowled out. He had some great support from "super sub" Fin in his first hardball match. He not only found a gap or two to score for himself but ran hard and sensibly to support his partner. A return of 96 gave us something to work with.
Unfortunately, their opening bowlers became their opening bats and played as strong a hand with the bat as with the ball. We were a player light in the field which never helps and while we beat the bat a few times it was only when Sam got the ball in hand that we breached their defenses. His first ball brought immediate reward but in the end this was our only success and we ended up defeated.
A season full of positives and plenty for us to work on for next season.
A big thank you to all who played and supported the team - particularly to Roisin and Lenny who put in many hours to make the season run smoothly and enjoyably.
