Match report Beating Division One teams in the Plate competition is getting to be a habit. Following the semi-final defeat of Rowledge last year, Sarisbury were eliminated on their own ground and the same fate befell Andover on Sunday.
Winning the toss again, Ben chose to bat first and was rewarded with a decent total, based on two major partnerships; 67 for the second wicket from Jack and Tom and 42 for the fourth wicket by Dean and Ollie. The most successful bowling was from left-armer Jansen with his unorthodox action.
The Andover openers began with a 41 partnership, broken in the eighth over when Ollie caught a swirling skier off Jono in the strong wind. Former Hampshire man Treagus followed three overs later, charging Max unsuccessfully. With 14 overs gone, Matt was introduced into the attack. 69 were then needed. The home captain, Knight, skied to Ben at long off at 78. Ben bowled the sixteenth over and induced two more skiers, caught by Dean and himself. With four overs to go, 55 were required. Only two were scored from Matt’s second over, so 53 were needed from the last three overs. Matt bowled Smith and had Adams caught on the boundary in the penultimate over so there was no way they’d get 33 from the last.
