Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B v Purbrook on Wed 16 Jun 2021 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost

Match report P & S won the toss and decided to bat first. Ollie & Elliott opened up the batting. Ollie & Elliott both got off the mark in the first over with Ollie hitting a late cut for 4. The first over went for a total of 8, a great start! Unfortunately our luck was not to last as the first ball of the 2nd over saw Elliott missing a straight ball and being clean bowled. Owen then joined Ollie. Owen got off to a great start, hitting 8 of his first 5 balls. Again, however, the straight ball saw the back of him, cleaning up his off stump. Will ran nicely for his singles, picking the gaps in the field. Again it was not to be for him. Dylan then joined Ollie for a few balls hitting a lovely 4, before being bowled. Tom then followed Dylan, in the next ball. Leaving their bowler on a hat trick. Josh made sure he didn’t get his satisfaction by defending the good balls. Ollie stuck in there playing his openers role nicely. They worked well together and began to repair the damage by keeping the score board ticking. Ollie then retired, bringing a good innings to a close. Ned & Josh where then left to get as many runs as possible with the few remaining overs. They both did so well, not letting any dot balls happen. Ned showing true team spirit running himself out to try an get that extra run on the score board. This bought us to an average score of 119.

Owen and Elliott opened the bowling they were up against great batsmen, Owen unfortunately bowled a little short in his first over so was punished for it. However he amended this in his second over, he corrected his length and only going for 3 runs in his over. Elliott first over was so good only going for 1 run, no wickets to show for it sadly. Until second ball second over, the ball bounced up on the opener a little, this caused him to top edge the ball into what looked like a gap. Elliott’s quick reactions meant he took a great catch diving to his left. Elliott’s next ball got their number 3 out with an out swinging delivery that knocked the bails off leaving him on a hat trick. Ollie brought the field up for a catch. It didn’t matter as a leg stump Yorker that the batsmen missed, secured his hatrick. Despite this, it wasn’t to be as their opener and number 5 put on a great partnership, that won them the game, with plenty of overs to spare.
A good game played by all, not enough runs on the board, made it a easy chase, despite Elliott’s hatrick.
