Match report A tough baptism for our young U13a side against a very strong Locks Heath side. Bowling first Talitha and Elliott opened up and both moved the ball away and contained their opening batsman for the first 4 overs. Elliot and Sam came on to bowl and Sam made the breakthrough clean bowling one of their batsman, both boys bowled straight and were unlucky not to take more wickets. Talitha came back on and capped a good bowling spell by clean bowling their number 3. The spin trio of Henry, Robbie and Felix kept up the pressure bowling good lines but were punished for anything short and Locks Heath increased their run rate through the middle overs, Henry O'H, Elliott and Sam bowled the final overs and the run rate slowed, Robbie took a good catch to give Elliott and a well deserved wicket before Locks Heath closed on 146 of which only 6 were wides which was a great all round team effort. Felix and Talitha shared the wicket keeping and only conceded 3 byes. Our boundary fielders Henry, Henry and Jacob did a great job restricting the number of 4s. Chasing 147 to win we were needed a good start and Robbie and Felix gave us that and after 6 overs we were going well until Felix hit a full toss straight to mid on, Talitha came in and after hitting a straight drive for 4 fell to a great catch in the covers, Robbie went next ball and with Henry O'H being run out after a couple of great cover drives we needed a partnership to steady the ship and Henry F and Elliott batted sensibly and put on 60 with Elliott in particular timing the ball sweetly through the off side. With 4 overs to go we need 38 to win so still had a chance but the re-introduction of the Locks Heath wicket takers saw them both fall and despite some good hitting and running from Jacob and Sam we fell 14 runs short. A really good game of cricket with both sides performing well. Our bowling and fielding were excellent, only bowling 3 wides and no no-balls was a fantastic effort, after losing 3 wickets in 2 overs all to catches we were always going to be up against it and the Henry and Elliott partnership nearly got us there.
