Match report P & S’s closest win in the league this season had been at Hook. The return fixture produced their narrowest defeat. It was also their first home defeat. Hook won the toss and chose to bat. After seven overs they were 14 for 2, Jake having struck twice. Love and Light were both back in the pavilion with 46 on the board. There followed comfortably the highest partnership of the match between May and Bruin who added 53 in thirteen overs. The only other stand worthy of mention was the 27 added for the eighth wicket by James and Watts. Max, returning from injury, showed no signs of recurrence.
The home team’s start was little better than their visitors, 18 for 2 from five overs. Tom and Jack added 20 for the third wicket. When Dean joined Jack in the middle, things looked brighter, but Dean fell at 68 (17 overs). At this point, the scoring rate was a healthy four an over. Alex’s miserable run continued and he departed at 82 with 20 overs left. Visiting captain, Kevin Light brought himself on to bowl very slow, flighted off breaks, but Jack and Max managed to keep the ball on the ground while adding 28 in nine overs, the highest partnership of the innings. While they were together, victory looked a strong possibility, but eventually Max was tempted to hit the ball in the air and became the first of Light’s three victims in the space of 11 balls. The game was up. When Keiron began a rare innings, 22 were needed from 8 overs. He and Jono managed 13, so the distance in points between the two teams became wider.
