Match report Despite the morning rain, the outfield and pitch were dry enough for a prompt start. The visitors decided to bat first, probably because one of their players was late arriving. The first blow was struck in the seventh over, Matt B bowling Williamson at 27. There followed the highest partnership of the innings as Coombs and Dyer added 56 in 11 overs. At 83 for 1 in 18 overs, Basingstoke looked set for a challenging total, but Keiron took two wickets in three balls to sow the seeds of doubt in the visitors. The last nine wickets fell for 75 as Coombs struggled to find someone to stay with him. Chandler was the only man of the last eight to reach double figures. Coombs was eighth to fall when bowled by Matt W. Unfortunately, wides were second top scorer for the visitors.
P & S also lost an early wicket when Matt was caught behind at 11 in the third over. The lesson learnt last week at Tichborne proved helpful as partnerships of 56 and 74 took the home side to within 18 of the target. Shaun and Chris both made welcome contributions before Jack and Dean finished the job with 52 balls remaining.
We moved up one place in the table to fourth, sandwiched between Gosport and Next opponents, Trojans.
