Match report At last some sunshine. It’s always sunny when we visit Tichborne Park and Ben was quick to say “we’ll bat first.” Despite the ground looking a picture and the pitch straw-coloured, the scoreboard read 53 for 4 after thirteen overs and brisk leg spinner Berry had 2-17 from six overs. At this point, Tom had just joined Jack for a partnership which would realise 83 runs in 18 overs and would give substance to the visitors’ innings. Tom’ Innings ended at 136 for 5 with ten overs left. Jack had 50, including only two boundaries, which showed his determination to set up a good total. Dean replaced Tom and was quickly into his stride. Fifty were added in six overs as the accelerator was pressed. Dean and Jack were both gone within six runs of each other, but Jake and Ben plundered 23 from the last two overs. Jack’s judgement had once again borne fruit.
Jake struck early to send Ayling out, but Barnett stayed with Allam while 40 were added in 12 overs. This was to be the highest partnership of the Tichborne reply, also young Connell helped add 35 after Barnett was dismissed by Matt W. Ben had started with a disappointing first over, but his seventh ball was skied gently to the safe hands of Shaun and Allam had to go (94 for 4). The effect on the rest of the home’s batting was plain to see and Ben ran through the rest of the innings to record his best Southern League figures. He claimed the last wicket too, with a run out. Maximum points were in the bag. There’s plenty to play for.
