Match report Usually there are positives to be identified from a defeat, but in this case they were quite elusive. Nobody bowled badly but Max suffered a side injury half way through his fourth over. Four catches of varying difficulty were dropped, resulting in only two bowling points points being achieved. George Marshall looked in good form until being well taken at slip. His brother’s short stay heralded a partnership of 87 between Pratt and newcomer Dan McGovern who dominated the match and looked impressive in all facets of the game. He was eventually caught skying the ball to the very calm and patient Dean at 168 with five and a half overs to go. Only 26 were added in this period. That was a minor triumph for the visitors.
P & S never got anywhere near challenging the target of 195. After 13 overs the score was 16 for two against the teenaged opening bowlers. The run rate did not get above two per over until the 18th over during which Alex hit two fours off the leg spinner, Oliver. Max had already retired hurt after two deliveries and did not return. Alex, Max and Ben added 20 for the sixth wicket, but the most productive part was between Jake (who hit two huge sixes) and Ben with 35 for the seventh wicket which fell at 80. Only seven more runs were added so no batting points were available.
All in all it was a hugely disappointing affair. Hambledon still lead Division 3 with maximum points; Hook and Langley Manor both won and Gosport slipped from second to fourth, having been heavily beaten as well. We are fifth.
