Match report In the lovely setting of Hook’s ground the home side had no hesitation in batting first on a dry pitch. Their decision looked fully justified when the openers reached 54 in ten overs. At that point, Max made the breakthrough and instantly, Ben brought himself on at the other end. After four overs, he had one for one and soon, Keiron was bowling in tandem with his captain. After 29 overs, Hook had managed only 105 for 5, pinned down by the spinners. Neville then joined Brown in a stand of 43 in six overs before Max bowled the latter. The last four wickets realised 27. Jono and Matt were responsible for their downfall with only two balls of their quota remaining.
The Benfields opened and both perished against the pace of Watts; his fearsome yorker would have been too good for most club batsmen. Seven for 2 was far from an ideal start in the chase for 176, but Jack and Ollie steadied the innings with a partnership of 39 in eight overs. Ollie was the first to go in a three wicket collapse while only 19 were added. Dean then helped Jack to compile 57 for the sixth wicket and Max dominated a stand of 30 for the seventh. Ben walked out to face the returning opening bowlers with the scoreboard showing 145 for 7 from 31 overs. After struggling initially, Ben was able to provide the backup Jack needed and in the end, the target was reached with some comfort and seven balls to spare.
