Locksheath v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11A on Mon 24 Aug 2020 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Wow what a win, in conditions more appropriate for football than cricket. After losing the toss we took to the field and Locksheath wasted no time in showing their intent. Both their opening batsman would go on to retire and it would have been easy for our opening bowlers of Elliot and Sam to lose their heads in the early onslaught but they stuck to the task and Sam was rewarded with the wicket of the number 3 batsman after the number 1 had retired quickly. Ryan Clarke making his debut in the 11A's bowled nicely and Henry O'Hara showed some real pace in his opening spell. The run rate was truly brought to a halt when Henry Ferrett took two wicket in a row off the last 2 balls of his first over meaning we would have to wait an over to see if he could complete a Hat trick. After a tidy opener from Ryan Henning back came the spin wizard and he did not disappoint with a beauty first up to complete the Hat trick. With Ryan H and Owen Dowdell ( on debut ) bowling tidily to keep the score down, Elliot then took a deserved wicket in his third over before Henry O'Hara took a wicket maiden to wrap up the innings with Locksheath finishing on a respectable 127. If we bear in mind that they were on 91 at the halfway point it just goes to show how well we actually bowled and fielded to restrict them the way we did.
Into the batting and Henry F and Jacob opened up and batted really well together. Running well between the wickets, hitting 4's when able to and taking advantage of some wayward bowling meant that together they put on over 50 for the 1st wicket. Jacob was deceived by flight for 14 but with Henry F retiring and Henry O adding a quick fire 9 we were well up with the run rate. All that was needed was decent knock from someone in the lower order and we'd have a great chance. Unfortunately our cause was not helped when Sam got a rip snorter that reared up on him and he could only fend off to the keeper. Fear not though as Elliott stepped up to the mark and batted supremely well to ensure that with able support from Ryan H, Ryan C and then Owen we were able to get over the line with an over to spare and by 2 wickets. A fantastic performance in hideous conditions, well done all.
