Match report This I felt was a useful work out against a reasonably strong Havant team on a lovely Summer’s day. Ben, deputising for Jack, won the toss and opted to bat which seemed to be the right decision. The opening partnership between Matt and Ollie was far more substantial than could have been expected at the start of this truncated season. They amassed 112 and were not separated until the 25th over. Ollie and Chris added 35 in six overs before a mix resulted in Ollie being run out. It looked like he sacrificed his innings so Chris could play on. He certainly did. After Tom departed, 82 were added from the last nine overs, Chris contributing 49 of them.
229 looked a decent total from 40 overs, but Harry Gadd played aggressively from the start. He and Whitfield posted 50 in ten overs. Hopson had just started to play more expansively when he was run out in the 18th over with the score on 106. Stone also looked in good shape and 46 had been added before Keiron bowled him. Gadd skied a catch off Jono, which Chris made to look easy, with no runs added, so the visitors had two men in both on nought to bowl at. Fourteen overs were left and Havant needed 78. Hindley and Morgan didn’t panic . Their experience from playing in the Premier division enabled them to approach the task calmly and when the match was won, there were still 15 deliveries left
